Primary Talk for Easter

Hayden’s Primary Talk - Easter 2014

Easter is next week.  It is the day we celebrate Jesus’s Resurrection.  My brother, sister, & I get an Easter basket filled with goodies.  Our entire family gets together for a big dinner and we have an Easter egg hunt.  It's a fun day.  But what is the REAL message of Easter?

At Easter time a few years ago, we found out the my Grandma Kathy was sick.  She wasn't very old and was a fun grandma.  We were sad to learn that she would probably die.  We were going to miss her.

While she was sick my family talk about how happy we were that we would one day get to see our grandma again.  We talked about Forever Families. We had many family prayers and my grandma received lots of priesthood blessings.  Each one thanking our Heavenly Father for eternal families.  A few months later, Grandma Kathy died.

It has been almost 6 years since I have seen or talked to my grandma. I have wondered how she got to heaven & if it hurt her to go there.  I think about her a lot and wonder if she is close and happy.

When I have had a busy day filled with sports and school, I sometimes fall asleep before getting into my bed.  The next morning, I am surprised because I wake up in my own bed.  I know that someone - probably my dad because he is stronger then my mom, lovingly picked me up in his arms and carried me to my bed and tucked me in without me feeling a thing.

As I think about this, I think that is what happened to my Grandma Kathy.  I think when her body got tired she fell asleep and our loving Heavenly Father carried her in his arms and she woke up in a different place without feeling a thing.

I know she is close and that she is happy.  Her body isn't sick anymore and she is able to watch over me the way she did when she was here.  She still loves me, and I still love her.  Not much has changed, she is the same Grandma in heaven as she was here on earth.

God so loved us, that He sent His son.  Jesus loved us, that he suffered and died for us.  If He hadn't suffered in the garden of Gethsemane, then there would be no hope in seeing my Grandma again or my family being together forever. But He did  ...  and THAT is the great message of Easter.

Primary Talk - I am Thankful for my Body

I am Thankful for My Body - I know it is a Temple

God is the father of our spirits. He created our spirits and sent us to earth to receive a body. I am thankful for my body.

I recently learned a hard lesson. In September I had a motorcycle accident and had a compound fracture of my finger. My bone was even sticking out. I had to go to the hospital to have it fixed.  That’s when I learned my lesson.
I no longer could do the things that used to be easy for me. I couldn’t play sports.  I couldn’t get dressed by myself.  I needed help all the time.

One day when I was really sad and frustrated,  I told my mom that I wish I had never gotten on that motorcycle and broken my finger. Even though my finger is just a small part of my body, it made a big difference on the things I could do.  I realized how thankful I am for my body and want to keep it strong, healthy, and safe.

Some of you may have a toy or doll or stuffed animal that you have had for a long time that means a lot to you.  Imagine how you would feel if someone took that special thing and broke it or treated it without respect.
I think that is how Heavenly Father feels when we don’t take care of our bodies.  Each of us are children of a Heavenly Father who loves us. Our bodies are a gift from Him.  In the scriptures they are sometimes called a “temple”, which means they are special to Him and He wants us to take care of them and treat them with respect.

I hope we will all realize how important our bodies are and be thankful for them and most of all, treat them with respect. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Hayden had a doctor's appointment to check his fingers.
as gross as his hand looks...

Unwrapping my Hand

Going to Dr. Angela Wong's office to get the green wrap taken off.

Wasn't as easy as I expected.
I had to take deep breaths and finally just put my head down.

Then it was off to Xray

I had to soak my fingers to get all the bandages off.

All uncovered and heading.

I wasn't feeling very good... It hurt.
